Search the Archival Holdings

• Finding aids are available for some of the record groups. These are PDF files that list the list the items in systematical order. Click here for a list of currently available inventories.

• The archival holdings can be also be searched through the online catalog.

Instructions for Searching the Online Catalog:

Keyword Search

A keyword search will generate results in all collections. Click the search icon in the top of the left hand side of the screen:

Enter a keyword in the search field in the right hand side of the screen (the so called "indexrecherche" on the left side of the screen is not activated).

The keyword search can be limited to one or more structure groups by selecting structure groups in the window in the center of the screen.

systematic search

Although a systematic search will take a little bit more time, the advantage is that records are displayed in their context. The navigation tree on the left hand side of the screen displays the records groups in systematic order.

For example: in order to find the 1870 ledger book of the Female Seminary in Bethlehem, you click your way through the navigation tree on the left hand side of the screen: educational institutions, Female Seminary, Bookkeeping, and finally, Ledgers.

At that point, the individual items are displayed on the right hand side of the screen. By clicking on “Ledger F: 1850-1881” the detailed description will be displayed.
