In the fall of 2020 the Moravian Archives was able to acquire a painting by Moravian artist John Valentine Haidt. The painting shows the Nativity and it is a rare example of a Biblical painting by Haidt from before he came to America. Most of his surviving European work are portraits. During this presentation we will tell you how we found out about this hitherto unknown painting and how we were able to attribute it to Haidt.
