This Coffee Hour with an Archivist focuses on helping researchers identify and access both archival materials and publications preserved in the Moravian Archives\, Bethlehem. The Online Finding Aid is the best place for researchers to look for archival materials\, such as a diary\, memoir\, meeting minutes\, or church registers. The Library Catalog\, on the other hand\, is the best place for researchers to look for books and other printed items. \nTom will start with some introductory tutorials on the Online Finding Aid and Library Catalog\, followed by an informal Q&A discussion. You’ll have ample opportunity to ask questions\, and to chat with an archivist. Even the most experienced researchers might learn something new that will help them in ongoing research in the Moravian Archives! This session will not be recorded. Every student will complete a beautiful leather journal.\nAll materials will be provided and each student will take home a set of bookbinding tools\, so they can continue their bookbinding endeavors. \nAfter teaching art at several area colleges and retiring from the Collection Care department of the Free Library of Philadelphia\, Dee Collins is now a volunteer at the Moravian Archives.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Modernizing the Southern Province Moravian Archives
DESCRIPTION:online lecture by Meaghan O’Riordan\, Archivist of the Moravian Church in America\, Southern Province \nWhen Meaghan O’Riordan arrived to serve as archivist for the Moravian Archives in the Southern Province in August of 2022\, the archives had been without an archivist for two years. It was clear that this was a well-loved and treasured collection and organization that needed proper time and attention to bring operations in-line with 21st-century best practices. Materials were housed in archival boxes but not the best kind of archival boxes. There were inventories for every box but no online finding aids so users could search for what they might need. The memoir collection had been almost completely scanned\, but those scans were only available upon request. In just 2.5 years\, O’Riordan\, along with a team she has built\, has improved on all this and more. Join us on April 29\, 2025\, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. to learn more about the changes at the Moravian Archives in the Southern Province. \n  \n  \n
