Presentation at the Moravian Archives, with reception to follow; and via Zoom (please register below)
by Steven Erisoty, Heather Reinert, and Paul Peucker
In 2020 an oil painting was discovered in Germany that soon proved to be a painting by Moravian artist John Valentine Haidt. The Moravian Archives was able to purchase it and during the midst of COVID restrictions it was transported from Southern Germany to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In 2022-2023 the painting was carefully conserved and it has now been returned to the Moravian Archives.
On November 29, 2023, Haidt’s newly conserved Nativity will be presented to the public.
Conservator Steven Erisoty will speak about the conservation treatment, its challenges and the discoveries he made.
Graphic designer and artist Heather Reinert will look at the artistic elements of the painting and uncover parallels with other early-modern artists and their work.
Moravian archivist Paul Peucker will speak about the discovery of the painting and explain how it was determined that this is in fact a Moravian painting.
Registration for this event has ended.
